Efficiency and cost savings in stress relief for cast parts
THE CHALLENGE
The casting process faces a constant challenge: ensuring the quality and durability of produced parts, especially regarding the relief of internal stresses. Traditionally, heat treatment is the main solution used.
At Tupy, stress relief is carried out through controlled heating and cooling processes of cast parts, aiming to modify their physical and mechanical properties. This procedure involves stages performed in industrial furnaces, which ensure temperature uniformity and precise control of the thermal cycle parameters. In this way, it is possible to relieve internal stresses, increase strength, and improve the durability of components, guaranteeing the quality required by the market.
Although efficient, stress relief heat treatment consumes a large amount of electricity or gas, requires specialized infrastructure, and frequent maintenance.
Ensuring efficiency and cost savings in stress relief for cast parts represents a strategic opportunity for Tupy by promoting:
– Reduction of operational costs and investments in equipment;
– Greater energy efficiency through physical, chemical, or mechanical processes with lower environmental impact.
Given this scenario, the current challenge seeks innovative alternatives capable of contributing to this goal.

EXPECTED MATURITY LEVEL
– Ability to conduct a Proof of Concept (PoC) for the solution, with functional validation performed by Tupy’s Non-Destructive Testing Laboratory in Joinville (SC).
TUPY’S PARTICIPATION IN THE CHALLENGE
– Technical support in validating the proposed solution.
– Access to Tupy’s technical area.
– Use of resources from the non-destructive testing laboratory.
