Three teams won equipment and scientific initiation scholarships from CNPq<\/p>\n
Joinville, September 2022 \u2013 Tupy, a multinational company that is a benchmark in the production of structural components for capital goods, announces, in partnership with the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), the three winning teams of the second edition of \u201cGirls in Technology\u201d. The initiative aims at boosting the development of technology environments in public schools and disseminating the learning of programming and robotics among female students in the final stages of elementary schools.<\/p>\n
The pitches of the 12 finalists were presented on the 29th, in an event at \u00c1gora Tech Park. Among the finalists were the teams from Escola Municipal Curt Alvino Monich and Escola Municipal Padre Valente Simioni (two teams), which won first, second, and third places, respectively, and were awarded equipment. The five best-ranked schools in the final stage will continue the research activities at the University guided by professors in the technology areas and scientific initiation scholarships from CNPq.<\/p>\n
This year, \u201cGirls of Technology\u201d had a total of 340 students and teachers from 28 public schools in Joinville. They all participated in 72 hours of logic, programming, and educational robotics training. The program had four stages until the eliminatory phase, in which the participants worked in groups to solve a new technological challenge that approached the monitoring of Joinville\u2019s weather conditions. In addition to the research phase, each team presented a physical prototype that worked using an Arduino \u2013 a free-use electronic prototyping platform – and sensors that read these parameters.
\nThe champion was Escola Municipal Vereador Curt Alvino Monich and, according to student Amanda do Livramento, it was an unprecedented opportunity to be immersed in the technological world. \u201cI had no experience with technology and the project provided me with my first access to this universe. In addition, we had important lessons on teamwork and public speaking\u201d, said one of the winning team members.<\/p>\n

Each educational institution won a 3D printer.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough \u201cGirls in Technology\u201d, we have the opportunity to invest in the training of future professionals and, from the base, generate resources to boost gender equity in the technology sector in general\u201d, says Thamires Prado Brito, Sustainability leader at Tupy.<\/p>\n
To sponsor more than 60% of the project, in addition to the fund received from the Private Social Investment, Tupy reinvested the amount received by the Company on the occasion of Fapesp\u2019s Stemmer Award to recognize the Company\u2019s innovation management. The amount was invested in equipment for the teams and schools. The Company also offered mentoring sessions in all phases of the project. \u201cFor being a company driven by innovation since the beginning of its history, it makes perfect sense for Tupy to be part of the encouragement necessary to the area. Furthermore, Education and Equity are investment pillars prioritized in our social responsibility policy\u201d, says Thamires.<\/p>\n
