Within just three hours, a Tupy and Instituto Comar (Instituto de Conserva\u00e7\u00e3o Marinha do Brasil) group of volunteers collected 257 kilos of waste such as plastic and glass bottles, tires, tiles, cans, styrofoam, electronics, apparel items, plastic bags, and wood, among others. The material was shipped to a sorting center approved by Tupy and will be environmentally destined.<\/p>\n
Another initiative of the SOS Manguezais project, sponsored by the Company, is the cleaning task-force, carried out across a 750 meter route on the edges of the mangrove swamp in the Boa Vista neighborhood. The residents walking by complimented the volunteers’ behavior and some joined the group, helping to collect the waste.<\/p>\n
The volunteers also symbolically planted native tree seedlings (aroeira, ing\u00e1 feij\u00e3o, and pitanga), suitable for the location. These activities celebrated the World Cleanup Day (September 18th) and the Tree Day (September 21st), helping to educate people to dispose of waste correctly and highlighting the relevance of mangroves to the ecosystem’s balance.<\/p>\n
