Sport as a management tool: that is what Tupy has been doing and 50 years ago, it sponsored the first soccer team formed by employees. It has not stopped since then. The Tupy Athletic Association, the company sports facility, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2007, is located across the street from the manufacturing plant in Joinville (Santa Catarina), and counts on an area of 204,514 ft².
At the sports facility, there are opportunities for activities just to keep fit as well as for the more dedicated athlete. There are several teams: soccer, beach volleyball and “bolão” (a variation of the Italian “boccie”) and individual sports such as athletics and tennis. There are 34 modalities available, which increases the company’s trophy gallery.
Tupy athlete employees have already conquered international championships. The most recent ones were the CSIT Soccer World Championship 2006, held in Austria at the same time as the 2006 Soccer World Cup, and the World Workers’ Beach Volley Ball, at a competition held in Leetonia in July 2007.
The path that has taken them to the international competitions started with the competitions organized by SESI, the Industry Social Services institution in Brazil which, like Tupy, sees the sport as a management instrument, capable of boosting team work, the capacity to overcome challenges and, above all, self-discipline. “Sport Values” is a SESI project inaugurated in 2007 during the Panamerican games in Rio de Janeiro.
